Sri Lanka’s Department of Immigration and Emigration has introduced dual entry visa for India and six other countries including Russia, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, and Indonesia. It is to be noted that this pilot project lasting until March 31, 2024, has limited Sri Lanka’s visa validity to 30 days.

Sri Lanka, a true year-round destination, with a calendar full of holidays, festivals, and cultural highlights, deserved the right call. An ideal bid to overcome the decline of Sri Lanka’s tourism following the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings, the country is now ready to offer a dual warm welcome to its visitors.

India being the prime contributor to Sri Lanka tourism, recorded around 26 percent of the total arrivals in October 2023, exceeding 28,000 visitors. Following closely, Russia recorded 10,000 visitors, while Britain accounted for just over 8,000 tourists.

Considering the above stats, the decision to offer dual entry visa on arrival for India and six other countries was taken. Which will not only offer an enhanced travel experience to avid travellers but also foster economic recovery.

December, witnessing the arrival of Christmas holiday and New Year, Sri Lanka is all set to host the celebrations in full swing. Followed by January, the peak of tourist season in Sri Lanka. This new initiative is sure to bring a tremendous boost to Sri Lanka’s Tourism sector.

Boasting idyllic weather, boundless beaches, UNESCO World Heritage sites, flavoursome food, and rich wildlife, Sri Lanka has long since served as a magnet for tourists from India. With a rich history spanning over 2,000 years, the country is without doubt one of the most appealing destinations for tourists to discover.
