Srinagar’s Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden has achieved the highest footfall in its history, drawing an unprecedented 6.7 lakh visitors within a span of just 21 days.
Nestled at the base of the Zabarwan Hills and overlooking the serene Dal Lake, Srinagar’s Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden is renowned as Asia’s largest. Each year, it captivates visitors with its vibrant display of tulips, showcasing a spectrum of colors and varieties.
Spread across a sprawling 30 hectares and beautifully laid out across seven terraced levels, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden has earned recognition from the World Book of Records as the largest tulip garden in Asia. This year, the garden, showcasing a record-breaking bloom of 1.7 million tulips, 74 tulip varieties—two more than last year—created a breathtaking spectrum of colors mesmerizing visitors from across the globe.
In a record-breaking moment, the garden witnessed its highest-ever single-day footfall on April 6, 2025, when an astonishing 81,452 people visited, smashing all previous attendance records.
Tourism at the tulip garden has seen a steady and impressive rise over recent years. In 2022, the garden drew 3.6 lakh visitors, followed by 3.7 lakh in 2023, and 4.65 lakh in 2024. However, 2025 has already rewritten the record books. With several days still left in the blooming season, the visitor count has surged to an unprecedented 6.71 lakh, marking a phenomenal rise in popularity.
The garden’s increasing appeal can be credited to not only the vivid floral display but also the efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department in enhancing the overall visitor experience. From improved infrastructure to favorable weather conditions and meticulous horticultural practices, every detail has contributed to making the Tulip Garden a highlight of India’s spring tourism calendar.
The Tulip Garden's success in 2025 stands as a testament to the region's potential as a vibrant tourist destination, blending natural splendor with cultural richness.
