The Salem Division of Southern Railway announces the operation of a special mountain train that will be running on the Mettupalayam-Ooty-Coonoor-Ooty route from March 29 to July 1, 2024.

In a bid to boost tourism and provide a unique experience for visitors, Tamil Nadu's picturesque hill stations, Coonoor and Ooty, are set to witness a special toy train service from March 29 to July 1. The Southern Railway Salem Division has announced this limited-time initiative, catering to both locals and tourists eager to explore the scenic beauty of the Nilgiri Hills.

The toy train service, a popular attraction in the region, will run on the historic Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its breathtaking views and charming landscapes. The decision to introduce this special service during the spring and early summer months aims to capitalize on the favorable weather conditions, ensuring passengers can enjoy the lush greenery and pleasant temperatures of the Nilgiris.

The journey will commence at the Coonoor Railway Station, taking the passengers on an exhilarating journey passing through 206 bridges and 16 caves, winding its way through the verdant hills, tea plantations, and eucalyptus forests, before reaching the charming hill station of Ooty. The route is dotted with numerous vantage points, allowing passengers to capture the beauty of the Nilgiri Hills while relishing the slow-paced, nostalgic charm of the toy train.

A schedule for the special mountain train operating between Mettupalayam-Ooty on Fridays and Sundays, and Ooty-Mettupalayam on Saturdays and Sundays, during the period from March 29 to July 1, 2024, has been outlined by the Salem Division for the convenience of the tourists.

The special service is expected to not only attract tourists from across the country but also serve as a delightful experience for residents. The Tamil Nadu government hopes to promote these hill stations as must-visit destinations, showcasing the cultural, historical, and natural treasures that the state has to offer.

As the announcement generates excitement, local businesses and tourism stakeholders are gearing up to welcome visitors, anticipating a positive economic impact during the operational period of the special toy train service.
