Special train scheduled to depart from Mumbai to Uttarakhand in October will take the visitors to the sacred sites of Shri Kartik Swami Temple, Badrinath, and Kedarnath.
In a move aimed at boosting religious tourism and facilitating easier access to sacred sites, the Uttarakhand state government has announced the operation of a special train from Mumbai to several of the region’s renowned temples. Scheduled to commence in October 2024, this initiative is expected to provide a significant boost to both the local economy and the spiritual well-being of numerous devotees.
The decision of launching the special train has been taken after the success of the ‘Manaskhand Express’, which initially began from Pune. The said train, covering a period of 7 – 10 days, took the passengers onboard to the lesser-known destinations of Uttarakhand.
During the journey the passengers visited Punagiri Temple, Nanakmatta Gurudwara, Tea Garden at Champawat, Haat Kalika Temple, Patal Bhuvneshwar Temple, Jageshwar Temple, Golu Devta Temple, Kainchi Dham, Nanda Devi Temple, Kasar Devi Temple, Sun Temple Katarmal and Naina Devi Temple.
Set to depart in the first week of October 2024, the newly introduced special train will include visits to Shri Kartik Swami Temple, Badrinath, and Kedarnath. Earlier this year, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) entered into an agreement with IRCTC to lease a dedicated 3AC train, which will accommodate up to 400 passengers.
This initiative is part of the state government’s effort to promote Uttarakhand as a premier pilgrimage destination and to cater to the growing demand from devotees across the country. Tourism officials in Uttarakhand anticipate that the special train will enhance the spiritual experience for visitors while also providing a much-needed boost to the local hospitality and tourism sectors. The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to promoting its rich cultural and religious heritage while ensuring that spiritual journeys are accessible and comfortable for all.
