The Valley of Flowers National Park officially reopens for the 2025 season.

Valley of Flower

The iconic Valley of Flowers National Park, nestled within the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, has officially reopened to visitors for the 2025 season. The park, located in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district at an altitude of around 3,600 meters, will remain open from June 1 through October 31, weather permitting.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Valley of Flowers spans approximately 87 square kilometers and is celebrated for its vibrant alpine meadows and extraordinary biodiversity. On the first day of the season, 63 trekkers made the journey to witness this Himalayan gem.

The park is home to more than 300 species of flowering plants, including the rare Brahma Kamal—Uttarakhand’s state flower—and the Himalayan Blue Poppy. It also shelters endangered species such as the snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, red fox, musk deer, and a variety of high-altitude birds.

Trekkers begin their journey from Govindghat and proceed to Ghangaria, the base camp. From there, a 3-kilometer uphill trek leads to the heart of the valley. Entry permits are now available online, making access easier for both domestic and international tourists.

Although the park opens in June, the best time to visit is between mid-July and early September, when monsoon rains trigger a riot of blooming wildflowers. Visitors are encouraged to register in advance and follow government-prescribed safety and environmental guidelines.

Culturally significant and historically celebrated, the valley rose to prominence in 1931 when British mountaineers Frank S. Smythe, Eric Shipton, and R.L. Holdsworth stumbled upon it during an expedition.

Offering a rare blend of natural beauty, tranquility, and heritage, the Valley of Flowers remains one of India’s most breathtaking seasonal attractions.
