India's ambitious semi-high-speed train, the Vande Bharat Express, is set to revolutionize travel in Jammu and Kashmir soon, connecting Jammu to Srinagar.
This much-anticipated service aims to enhance regional connectivity while providing a major boost to tourism in the region. The Vande Bharat Express currently operates 136 services across the country. As per reports, the Indian Railways is now gearing up to conduct the trial run of the new Vande Bharat Express train between Jammu and Srinagar.
Soon after the successful completion of the trial, this semi–high–speed train will operate between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) and Srinagar. This route ensures seamless travel through the challenging terrain of the Himalayas, overcoming logistical barriers that previously slowed travel between Jammu and Srinagar.
The train is expected to run at a top speed of 160 kmph, covering 190 km in 3 hours, reducing travel time between Jammu and Srinagar significantly making it a game-changer for commuters and tourists alike. Currently, road travel takes around 8-10 hours under favorable conditions.
Once commercial operations commence, the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat train is expected to halt at key stations such as Reasi, Sangaldan, Banihal, Qazigund, Anantnag, and Avantipora. However, the final list of stoppages will be determined by the Railway Board (RB).
The new train is scheduled to depart from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) at 08:10 hours, reaching its destination in Srinagar by 11:20 hours. On the return journey, the Srinagar-Katra Vande Bharat Express will leave Srinagar at 12:45 hours and arrive back at SVDK by 15:55 hours.
The addition of this train is expected to enhance tourism and economic development in Jammu and Kashmir. It will make the scenic beauty of the Kashmir Valley more accessible to visitors and support local businesses by improving connectivity.
An official launch date is expected soon, and citizens are eagerly awaiting the start of this historic journey. This project exemplifies India's commitment to modernizing rail infrastructure and bringing world-class facilities to every corner of the country.
