Our Club Mahindra holiday in Sri Lanka’s Mount Lavinia Hotel is one of our most memorable holidays. It started as soon as we arrived at our hotel. It is over 200 years old, one of the most historic resorts in Sri Lanka! In fact, we found one of our first places to visit in Sri Lanka in the hotel itself. The hotel spa, located on the beach, promised to pamper us. We enjoyed a relaxing massage with beautiful views of the sea.

We had booked one of the Colonial Rooms. It was comfortable and luxurious. After settling in, we headed to dinner at one of the best-looking restaurants in Sri Lanka, Governor’s Restaurant, inside our hotel. After a relaxing arrival day, our Sri Lanka trip itinerary was packed with some of the best places to visit in Sri Lanka along with some of the most fun things to do in Sri Lanka. Here’s how we decided to plan a Sri Lanka trip for maximum fun.

Day 1: Dehiwala Zoo and Museum and Tunnel Tour

The 84-year-old Dehiwala Zoo is one of the most fun places to visit in Sri Lanka. It has so many animals, more than 2500 birds, animals and reptiles! It is beautiful. But the best parts of our visit were interacting with the animals and the elephant dance show. We didn’t do the night safari but returned to our hotel for a treat. We had a museum in our hotel! It has a wonderful collection of objects and documents which are a part of the hotel’s long history. The Lavinia Tunnel, near the lobby, was a fun adventure.

Day 2: Boat Ride, Casinos and Train Tour

Our second day started with a boat ride at Bolgoda Lake. Our hotel had made all the arrangements. The lake is huge! It even has a small island that can be booked for parties. It was beautiful and peaceful around the lake. But we had to leave soon to start a train tour of Colombo city. The tour took us through some of the most beautiful places to visit in Sri Lanka. On our guide’s recommendation, we decided to explore some of the city’s casinos in the evening. They were beautifully lit up on the outside. We returned to the hotel after a long day.

Day 3: Temples and Sunday Pola

This day was reserved for culture. We visited three temples which were close to our hotel, Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya, Gangaramaya Temple and Kathiresan Hindu Kovil. These are some of the most spiritual places to visit in Sri Lanka. But the best part of the day was the Sunday Pola tour organised by the hotel’s chefs. We enjoyed exploring the market.

We took all our meals at our hotel. We enjoyed a variety of fresh seafood dishes prepared in the local way. Our favourites were Pol Rotti, Fish Ambulthiyal, Black Pork Curry and the spicy Crab Curry.

Thus ended our short but exciting Sri Lankan adventure.
