The lush green forests with diverse flora and fauna, mesmerising waterfalls, wildlife sanctuaries, and hidden walking trails- Munnar in Kerala needs no introduction to seasoned travellers. The place has also grown popular as a honeymoon destination.

However, one aspect of Munnar that requires more highlighting is its sprawling tea estates. Here is a list of five enchanting tea plantations you must visit on your next Munnar trip.

1.      Lockhart Tea Estate

The Lockhart Estate is one of the earliest tea plantations of Kerala, believed to be established in 1879. Apart from vast stretches of tea plantations, the estate also houses a tea factory that uses an orthodox tea manufacturing process. Moreover, you can also visit the khart tea museum to see the numerous old pieces of equipment used in the tea plantation.

Both the museum and the factory are on the slopes of Chokarmudy, one of the highest peaks in South India. So, you can have a bird’s-eye view of the entire Lockhart valley while visiting here.

2.      Tata Tea Museum

Situated in the Nalluthanni Estate in Idukki, the Tata Tea Museum is one of the most important places to visit in Munnar for every tea lover. Also known as Kannan Devan Tea Museum, the museum houses various items related to tea production. Visitors can also learn the various stages of tea processing in detail.
