Located in Thrissur district, Guruvayoor is a pilgrimage site in Kerala and often referred to as “Lord Krishna’s home in God’s Own Country”. The deity figurine is in the traditionally orthodox form of Mahavishnu, comprising four arms, each carrying a shankh (conch), gada (club), padmam (lotus), and chakra (wheel). The main idol, Moolavigrahais made of Pathalanjana Shila. It is believed to be extremely sacred. The temple is a sight to behold and is sure to capture your kids’ fascination.
• Timings The Guruvayoor Temple opens at 3 AM every day and that is when the Nirmalyam happens. Different kinds of poojas and aartis happen every half an hour. It remains shut from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, after which it remain opens till 9:15 PM.
• How to reach Kochi International Airport is 80km away from Guruvayoor and Calicut airport is about 100km away. If you are coming by train, Guruvayoor has its own railway station, which is located towards the east of the temple and is connected to Mangaluru, Chennai, and Thiruvananthapuram.
