Jaipur, the capital and largest city of Rajasthan, is a famous tourist destination and forms the " Golden Triangle" tourist circuit with Delhi and Agra. The city can also serve as a gateway to Jaisalmer, famous for its yellowish sandstone and numerous historical places.
So, if you’re in Jaipur, utilise this opportunity to plan a trip to Jaisalmer. Here is how.

Jaisalmer has a domestic airport situated 14.6 km away from the main city. The Airport Authority of India plans to operate daily flights from this airport soon. However, flights don’t operate from here at present, except for almost once-in-a-month flights. So, the Jodhpur Airport, at a distance of 481 km, is technically the nearest airport to Jaisalmer.
Therefore, it might not be convenient and practical to take a flight from Jaipur to Jodhpur first and resume your journey to Jaisalmer thereafter.

About 3 to 5 trains run from Jaipur to Jaisalmer daily. Leelan Express, Ranikhet Express, and Corbet Park Link Express run this route daily. Additionally, there are 1 to 2 weekly and bi-weekly trains. The 12-hour train journey is safe and one of the cheapest options preferred by many people.

Jaisalmer is well-connected to Jaipur by road. The 616 km distance can take about 12-13 hours to complete based on the number of halts taken during the trip. Many people prefer the road trip as it provides vivid views of rural Rajasthan.
If you wonder how to reach Jaisalmer by road on a low budget, board an inter-state public bus. Numerous inter-state public and private buses routinely ply the Jaipur-Jaisalmer route. However, enquire about the route in advance. The shortest 12-hour route is via Ajmer.
Check into Club Mahindra Jaisalmer, one of the best resorts in Jaisalmer, to have a memorable stay in the golden city. You can taste some authentic Rajasthani cuisines during your stay here. Jaisalmer, being a desert region, witness extremely hot summer when the temperature can easily go beyond 43 °C. So, the best time to visit Jaisalmer is during the winter season, which usually lasts from October to March. From sightseeing and shopping to desert safari and camel rides- there are many things to do in Jaisalmer during the winter season.
If you want to get immersed in the desert grandeur and Rajasthani culture, consider visiting Jaisalmer during the annual Jaisalmer Desert Festival held in February.
